Why I Write: Stories of Humanity, Love, Peace, and the World We Share

There are some stories that begin with an idea.
Others begin with a question.
For me, writing began with a desire to understand the world around me—and perhaps to imagine what it could become.
Since I was a teenager, I dreamed of writing the kind of novel someone could pick up on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, settle into a comfortable chair, and simply enjoy. I wanted to create stories that could entertain readers while also giving them something to think about after they turned the final page.
That dream eventually led me to study creative writing and, years later, to begin writing the Alpha Series.
When the World Becomes Part of the Story
The Alpha Series—Inescapable Desires, For the Love of Peace, and Elapsing into Love—did not emerge from a single moment of inspiration.
They grew from observations about everyday life.
Violence. Crime. Conflict. Environmental destruction. The struggle for power. The ways people treat one another. The choices we make as individuals and as societies.
These realities became impossible for me to ignore.
I began asking questions.
Can humanity change?
What would happen if someone believed peace was worth any sacrifice?
Can love overcome violence?
What happens when the desire to create a better world conflicts with the methods used to achieve it?
Those questions became part of the foundation of my novels.
The Alpha Series
The first book, Inescapable Desires, introduces readers to a world struggling with violence, disorder, environmental destruction, and a loss of human connection.
At the center of the story is the Winston family—a group of extraordinary individuals who believe humanity must fundamentally change.
But their mission raises difficult questions.
If someone believes they are acting for the good of humanity, how far should they be willing to go?
Can peace be created through force?
And who gets to decide what humanity needs?
The second novel, For the Love of Peace, continues that exploration. The Winstons believe their mission is driven by compassion and a desire to protect humanity and the planet. Yet an even greater threat emerges, forcing them to confront a danger that could destroy everything they are trying to save.
Then comes Elapsing into Love, where the story turns toward Harvey and his journey through a world seemingly moving toward collapse. His decision to leave behind ordinary life and walk into the wilderness becomes the beginning of something he could never have anticipated.
Together, these books explore human nature, love, peace, conflict, environmental responsibility, personal transformation, and the consequences of our choices.
The Connection Between Nature and Writing
My own experiences in nature have also shaped the way I see the world.
After my years in the United States Navy, I spent considerable time backpacking and exploring some of America's great long-distance trails, including the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, Long Trail, and International Appalachian Trail.
I've also walked in the mountains of Norway.
Those miles taught me something that is difficult to learn anywhere else:
Sometimes you need to step away from the noise of the world to understand what really matters.
Walking for days or weeks with only what you can carry creates a different relationship with time, nature, and yourself.
The mountains don't care about status.
The trail doesn't care about wealth.
Nature doesn't ask what position you hold or how successful you are.
It simply exists.
And sometimes, that is where the most important thoughts begin.
Why I Want to Connect With Readers
This website is more than a place to showcase my books.
It is a place to continue the conversation.
Stories can entertain us, but they can also challenge us. They can introduce ideas we have never considered and allow us to experience situations through another person's eyes.
I don't expect every reader to agree with every character, every decision, or every idea found in my novels.
In fact, disagreement can be valuable.
A good story can make us ask questions we might otherwise never ask.
That is what I hope my books will do.
Read the story. Question the characters. Consider the choices. And make your own conclusions.
What Comes Next
This website will be a place where I can share more than books.
I'll be sharing thoughts about writing, nature, storytelling, the ideas behind my novels, and some of the experiences that have influenced my work.
I'll also be sharing updates about the Alpha Series, including the upcoming fourth novel, Heaven's Gate Beyond the Threshold.
Most importantly, I hope this website becomes a place where readers and I can connect.
Because ultimately, writing is a conversation.
I write the words.
You bring your own experiences, beliefs, questions, and imagination to them.
And somewhere between those two things, a story comes alive.
Thank you for being here.
